Tuesday, March 31st, 2009One of the more interesting aspects of The American President is that the screenwriters made Andrew Shepard a widower and not a divorcee. Despite the overall acceptance of divorce in current society, the film wouldn”t have worked if the president were divorced. Subconsciously, it would implant an idea in some members of the audience that he”s a dog. That”s an interesting footnote in my opinion. Also of further note are the appearances of Michael J. Fox (who later starred as a political operative in the TV series Spin City) and Martin Sheen (who later starred as the president in the TV series West Wing). Did The American President peak their interest in such roles, or were they already pursuing those types of roles? Either way, The American President will delight and entertain audiences of all ages, and that”s why it”s a definite must-see movie.
Madonna’s rep has confirmed with ET that the singer is in the process of adopting another child from Malawi — and ET has the details.
Her rep tells ET, "I can officially confirm that Madonna has filed an application to adopt Mercy James, a three-year-old girl she met at an orphanage she visited two years ago on a previous trip to Malawi."
The statement goes onto say that the singer is "following all required procedures and is waiting for the judge to hopefully grant adoption by Friday."

Pop singer Madonna arrived in Malawi Sunday preceding a reported court examination of her proposal to adopt a second child.
Madonna — who adopted her son David, 3, from Malawi last year — is said to be looking to adopt a 4-year-old girl and is expected in court on Monday for the adoption proceedings, officials tell the Associated Press.
On Sunday, the singer was seen hand-in-hand with her 12-year-old daughter Lourdes as she toured a village and discussed plans to build a school. She refused to answer questions regarding reports of her adopting a child.
Supermodel Tyra Banks was presented the prestigious Excellence in Media Award from The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) by singer Clay Aiken.
In addition to the special award, Banks’ daily talk show as well as "America’s Next Top Model" have been nominated for GLAAD Awards. The ceremony Saturday night in New York was the first of three planned by the organization, which honors media companies and individuals for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. In addition to the special award, Banks’ daily talk show and "America’s Next Top Model" have both been nominated for GLAAD Awards.
Other awards handed out on Saturday included Outstanding Daily Drama, given to CBS’ "As the World Turns," Outstanding Music Artist, presented to artist k.d. lang, for her album Watershed, and Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage, awarded to Newsweek magazine.

Now that pictures of Rihanna’s new gun tattoo have surfaced, the artist himself is revealing the story behind the ink.
"She had a necklace with a gun, and I love it. I was like, ‘How about the gun?’" the artist named BangBang tells Us magazine.
BangBang, who says they had discussed the idea for a year, gives his own interpretation of the design. "It’s powerful," he says. "It’s protection."
ET was there as John Mayer teamed up with "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks and other musicians to raise money for a good cause.
The One Splendid Evening event took place Thursday night aboard the spectacular (Carvinal) Splendor — the cruise company’s largest and most innovative ship to date – which was docked at the Port of Los Angeles. Other performers delighting the crowd were Gavin Rossdale, O.A.R., Sara Bareilles, Guster and Erin McCarley.

Pop star Rihanna is armed and dangerous with her latest tattoo.
Rihanna’s tattoo artist BigBang put up a picture on his MySpace page of the singer’s new gun tattoo located under her right arm. BigBang says in another photo post that Rihanna wanted guns on her shoulders but thought it would affect her agreement with Cover Girl.
Rihanna has several tattoos already, including stars on the back of her neck and "shhh" on her right pointer finger.
