The father of British singer AMY WINEHOUSE says his daughter is suffering from the lung disease emphysema and doctors have warned she could die if she continues smoking cigarettes and drugs, Reuters reports.

MITCH WINEHOUSE said his 24-year-old daughter was diagnosed with the illness, which clogs the lungs and leaves sufferers short of breath, when she was recently hospitalized and underwent a series of medical tests. 

"The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won’t just ruin her voice, it will kill her," Reuters quotes her father as telling London’s Sunday Mirror.

AMY WINEHOUSE is still in the hospital, but reports that she is fighting a deadly illness are false, People reports.

"She has a chest infection," her rep tells the mag, adding that "she had a routine test for TB, which came back negative."

The 24-year-old is still being kept under observation while she undergoes more testing. Doctors have yet to determine if she will be able to resume performing in the near future. She is scheduled to perform for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebration in London.
