March 11th, 2010

Using a mosaic photosensor, Eugene F. Lally of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory first showed how still photos could be produced in a digital domain. An engineer at Eastman Kodak, Steve Sasson, used solid-state CCD chips to build a prototype digital camera having a resolution of 0.01 megapixel, and recorded black and white digital images to a magnetic cassette tape. With this prototype model, Steve took the first image in December of 1975 taking 23 seconds to capture it.

But the show stealer is Barney Fife (Don Knotts) who plays the role of a sometimes incompetent, kooky deputy always in over his head. The onscreen dynamic between Griffith and Knotts is truly magical. Both men would go on to heralded careers in show business with Knotts starring in numerous roles, such as Mr. Furley on Threes Company, and Griffith as the title star of Matlock. And Ron Howard (Opie) would go on to establish himself as one of Hollywoods most well-known directors

What Makes a Great Speaker?

e4a

When people hear that I owned a national, professional speakers bureau for 13 years, they often ask me, who are the best speakers and why? What follows are some of the characteristics of a very successful speaker who is often a highly paid speaker.

The Automatic - Tear the Signs Down

This could well be one of the most disappointing albums of 2010.

My Brightest Diamond - Shark Remixes

A glowing whole transcendent of any one persons vision.

Jenni Molloy - Bach ReLoaded

Molloy handles the source material with impressive authority here.

Gonjasufi - A Sufi and a Killer

A terrific, trippy adventure with something for every curious pop fan.

The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night

Long-time stars of the Canadian indie-rock firmament deliver a fine third album.

Crookers - Tons of Friends

Tons of Friends is 100% party focused, and certain to tear up dancefloors.

Chumbawamba - ABCDEFG

They retain the capacity to make you smile, dance, laugh and furrow your brow.

Thomas Ads - Violin Concerto & Tevot (feat. violin: Anthony Marwood; feat. orch: Chamber Orchestra of Europe, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Berliner Philharmoniker)

Ads is the most consistent and compelling composer of his generation.

Ramsey Lewis - Songs From the Heart: Ramsey Plays Ramsey

A credible jazz album for those who never knew they liked the genre.

High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine

Tight, concise and thrillingly sharp, High on Fires latest is boundlessly impressive.

Shy Child - Liquid Love

Undoubtedly impressive, well-honed and slickly produced.

March 8th, 2010

Picture frames are containers added to photos in order to enhance, protect and display photos. Some individuals even possess digital picture frames. The photo frame displays digital photos without the arduous need to print the photographs. Currently, digital photography unavoidably display the photos directly from the memory card of a cameraalthough a few styles may also provide internal storage to the memory. Some models can even load photos over the Internet from an RSS feed, by e-mail and photo-sharing websites like Picasa or Flickr. Most digital picture frames display photos as a slideshow. Digital photo frames can even play movie clips which are recorded in a cameras movie mode (MP3 audio or MPG files).

Boyzone - Brother

A treat for fans, but younger ears might wonder what the fuss was ever about.

Emma Pollock - The Law of Large Numbers

Long-term fans of Pollock, and The Delgados, will find their expectations met.

Titus Andronicus - The Monitor

Lives up both to its rebellious, riotous ambition and its rich musical heritage.

Various Artists - Bustin Out New Wave To New Beat: the Post Punk Era 1979-1981

Reminds us that pop and dance music can be subversive without foregoing accessibility.

Jason Derulo - Jason Derlo

As hot as a deep-frozen chicken fillet, this soulless Auto-Tune-fest is one to avoid.

Jimi Hendrix - Valleys of Neptune

The latest posthumous Hendrix album offers underwhelming new material.

New Young Pony Club - The Optimist

A super-smart pop album at the top of its game.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat the Devils Tattoo

Emerges from the swampland armed with an acoustic, and desire in its belly.

The Chieftains featuring Ry Cooder - San Patricio

A transatlantic musical campaign whose eccentric heart makes it hard to resist.

Kris Drever - Mark the Hard Earth

Quite understated and beautifully played, Drevers singing peerless throughout.

Various Artists - Next Stop Soweto: Township Sounds From the Golden Age of Mbaqanga

Tough, rootsy grooves and plentiful hooks give this mbaqanga music broad appeal.
